The music world continues to reel on Wednesday from the death of country icon Loretta Lynn, who passed away at age 90 on Tuesday. Tributes to the “Coal Miner’s Daughter” singer continue to pour in, including from Margo Price. In addition to posting a thoughtful note on social media crediting Lynn for her career in country music, Price covered “Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven But Nobody Wants To Die” in Nashville on Tuesday as part of her ongoing book tour.

“It’s safe to say I wouldn’t even be making country music today if it weren’t for Loretta Lynn,” Price wrote on social media. “She showed me up what it looked like to be a musician and a mama. Her writing was as real as the day is long. This one hurts on another level. I’ll miss her forever.”

Price put her kind words into action that evening during a book event at Nashville institution Grimey’s New And Preloved Music. One of Nashville’s many adopted children, Price was there to launch her debut memoir, Maybe We’ll Make It. The event also featured Allison Russell and was highlighted by Price’s remembrance of Lynn and her take on the track from the Grammy winner’s 1965 album, Hymns. The two previously performed the song together on April 15th, 2017 at Ryman Auditorium, shortly before Lynn stopped touring due to a stroke that same year. Price appeared on Lynn’s 46th and final album, Still Woman Enough, released last year with Margo featured on “One’s On The Way”.
