An edgy new project from members of Dopapod has got us very intrigued. On February 3rd, the Knitting Factory will be taken over by DIAMON, the brainchild of Dopapod bassist Chuck Jones featuring Eli Winderman (Dopapod) on keys, Danny Mayer (On The Spot Trio) on guitar, Adrian Tramontano (Kung Fu) on drums, Shane Allen (Danke) on vocals, and Mr. Rourke (Club D’Elf) on turntables. The supergroup will play trip hop covers and originals, tackling everything from Portishead to Radiohead. Get advance tickets here.

Chuck’s interest in playing this style of music was rekindled after watching Oktopus (Jason Hann & Todd Stoops) play his favorite Portishead song, “Glory Box”, at Gathering of the Vibes (watch it here). The timing was perfect, as Dopapod had planned to take the beginning of 2016 off to write, rehearse, and spend time with their families. In this downtime, DIAMON was born.

With DIAMON, Chuck plans to experiment with more of a trip hop sound and explore the music of Radiohead, Bjork, and Portishead, to name a few. He’s called in an all-star roster of friends to join him on this journey. Jamband veterans Winderman, Mayer and Tramontano round out the band’s rhythm section, with Shane Allen holding it down on vocals. Allen is no stranger to this scene, having previously lent her powerful pipes as a vocalist for Turkuaz. Mr. Rourke is the final key ingredient. A phenomenon on the turntables, Mr. Rourke worked on Dopapod’s first album, Radar.

After the Brooklyn gig, DIAMON will go on to play three more shows across the Northeast. They’ll hit Electric Haze in Worcester, MA on 2/4, Nectars in Burlington on 2/5, and Arch Street Tavern in Hartford, CT on 2/6.
