Deadheads around the Pomona, California area will get the chance to take in a night full of Jerry Garcia music next month, when “A Merry Jerry Christmas” takes place at The Fox Theater on Sunday, December 16th. The one-night music event will feature music from Garcia’s career in the Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia Band, as played by some of the late guitarist’s old bandmates and prominent names from throughout today’s jam scene in hopes of spreading plenty of holiday cheer.

Scheduled performers for the mid-December concert event include Jerry Garcia Band’s Melvin Seals, Dead & Company/Allman Brothers bassist Oteil Burbridge, John Kadlecik of Furthur/Dark Star Orchestra, and more special guests. The night’s schedule will also include a pair of “very special performances” courtesy of local jam band The Higgs, and the Los Angeles-based Grateful Dead tribute band, Cubensis. Proceeds from the Merry Jerry event will be going to benefit Story Book Adventure, a local organization which brings both music and literacy education to kids around the Inland Empire metropolitan area located east of Los Angeles.

Some of the above-mentioned musicians have been coming together quite frequently over the past few years, much to the delight of Jerry’s fans. Oteil Burbridge and Melvin Seals were just a few of the big names who performed as the Jerry Garcia Birthday Band during two nights of music at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater in Colorado this past summer in celebration of the legendary musician. Burbridge and Seals will also be teaming up again early next year for the “Like A Road Leading Home: Celebrating Jerry Garcia” concert at San Francisco’s Warfield on January 11th and 12th. Until then, fans can re-educate themselves on the life and spirit of Jerry Garcia with these 15 defining interviews from the famous guitarist.

Tickets for the holiday event are on sale now.
