After a year and a half together, singer MIA is leaving Jay-Z’s Roc Nation management and entertainment company, according to a Tweet sent out on New Years Eve. After the plainly worded Tweet, MIA sent out another urging young music professionals to apply to help her within various forms of management opportunities, along with the phrase ‘MIA 4 the people by the people’.
2013 i dlted old tweet to bring u this. im leaving @RocNation . Thank to everyone who supported the M.I.A #MATANGI LP. HAPPY NEW YEAR | 2014

MIA’s relationship with Roc Nation became fractured back in July, when Rolling Stone reported that director Steve Loveridge leaked a trailer for an upcoming MIA documentary, only to have Roc Nation remove it due to copyright infringement. Loveridge claimed that Roc Nation kept pushing back promotion of the documentary, forcing the director to take matters into his own hands. Then in August, MIA threatened to leak her upcoming album, Matangi, unless her label, Interscope, gave the album a definitive release date.
Based on her earlier Tweets, it looks like MIA may be preparing to represent and release music herself.
