Michael Stipe made a guest appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night. After introducing a pageless book that featured an image of a hole in the ground available for people to pretend-jump through when thinking too hard about the state of our existence, the artist went on to discuss the innumerable tragedies of 2016. Ranging from the President-elect Donald Trump, to Zika, the Flint water crisis, Harambe’s death, global warming, and North Carolina’s ridiculous “bathroom bill”, Stipe, along with the rest of America, has really had enough of 2016.

While R.E.M has no official plans to tour again, the former frontman still expressed interest in returning to the big stage. While there to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the band’s Out Of Time, Stipe instead chose to perform “It’s The End Of The World (As We Know It)” from the band’s 1987 Document. Though, Stipe refuses the lyrics “and I feel fine” for obvious reasons. Toward the end of the performance, Stephen Colbert and James Franco join in.
