Mick Fleetwood told reporters on the Grammy Awards red carpet that Fleetwood Mac is “done” following the death of Christine McVie.

“I think right now, I truly think the line in the sand has been drawn with the loss of Chris,” he said. “I’d say we’re done, but then we’ve all said that before. It’s sort of unthinkable right now.”

McVie died in November at the age of 79. Her final show was a tribute concert for founding Fleetwood Mac guitarist Peter Green at the London Palladium in 2020.

Fleetwood went on to say the band’s members have turned their focus to different musical projects. “They all get out and play,” he said, “so I’m gonna be doing the same thing, finding people to play with.” The 75-year-old drummer added that he plans to continue performing, just “not as Fleetwood Mac.”

Later in the night, Fleetwood was joined by Sheryl Crow and Bonnie Raitt for a performance of “Songbird”, a Fleetwood Mac single written by McVie, during the In Memoriam segment of Sunday’s ceremony. McVie happened to receive a posthumous Grammy Award for Best Arrangement, Instruments and Vocals for her work on the orchestral version of the song earlier in the day. She was credited as an arranger on the song, which was originally featured on Fleetwood Mac’s Grammy-winning album Rumours in 1977.

McVie joined Fleetwood Mac in 1970 following Green’s departure from the group. The band continued on without her when she left in 1998 but welcomed her back in 2014.
