Twiddle’s own Mihali made a stop on his solo tour at Ophelia’s Electric Soapbox in Denver on Wednesday night, the first of four Colorado dates. For this performance, Mihali played a complete solo first set and was joined by a full band for a second set, comprised of Ross James (guitar), Todd Stoops (keys), Jeff Franca (drums/Thievery Corporation), Doug Gresh (bass/Project 432), and Rich Vagner (violin).

The historical, intimate venue quickly filled up from the dinner crowd, the energy in the room lighting up with excitement and positivity. Playing a combination of covers, solo originals, and Twiddle songs, Mihali shared his usual charisma with the audience and this spirit and animation gave the venue an uplifting vibe.

Mihali was able to dive deeper into his lyrics and songwriting capabilities during this solo show, his mastery of pedals, specifically the repetitive phenomena known as “looping,” beat boxing, and guitar riffs, all prep a multi-textured canvas for each song. Mihali’s words are genuine. Shaped by his journey through grief and redemption, he writes songs that serve as a light to many who find themselves lost in their own darkness.

For his first solo set, Mihali played some of his lyrical favorites, including “Breathe And Let Go”, “Over Land and Sea”, and ended with Twiddle’s “Lost In The Cold” to keep us fuzzy and warm over set break.

Coming back from set break, Mihali was joined with a live band featuring guitarist Ross James, keyboardist Todd Stoops, drummer Jeff Franca, bassist Doug Gresh, and violinist Rich Vagner. Kicking things off with “Empty overflow”, the rest of the night consisted of the all-star powerhouse group of musicians having fun onstage jamming out to, “I Shot The Sheriff”, and Mihali originals “Carved Lines”, and “Fading State”. Surprise guest musician Andy Frasco made an appearance and brought some added energy to the stage for a frenzied party in the small venue. Mihali ended the night with his uplifting “When It Rains It Pours” for a lighthearted energy for the crowd to walk away with.

After continuing his Colorado run at Steamboat Springs and Fort Collins the following two evenings, Mihali will finish his Colorado residency with a performance at Vail’s Shakedown Bar on November 23rd.
