On Saturday night, Mike Gordon continued his March 2019 solo tour with a performance at Asbury Lanes in Asbury Park, NJ.

After getting started with “Different World”, Gordon and his band—comprised of guitarist Scott Murawski, keyboardist/organist Robert Walter, drummer John Kimock, and percussionist Craig Myers—moved into “Victim”, off of Gordon’s 2017 OGOGO release. Gordon continued with the vocal lead on “Infinite”, a newer tune that was debuted at Phish‘s three-night Gorge Amphitheatre run over the summer. “Infinite” smoothly transitioned into a bouncy rendition of “Jumping”, highlighted by some electric guitar work from Murawski. Mike Gordon and company continued with “Meat” and a cover of Beck‘s “Black Tambourine” before bringing the improv-heavy first set to a close with “Let’s Go”.

The band continued with their recently debuted original “Sughn Never Sets”, which was followed by smooth takes on “Yarmouth Road” and “Marissa”. Murawski took the vocal lead for a high-energy cover of Talking Heads’ “Cities” before closing out the second set with “Face”. Gordon and the band returned to the stage for a two-song encore performance of “Destiny Unbound” and “Gimme Some Lovin'”.
