Four Major League Baseball franchises including the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, San Francisco Giants, and Cincinnati Reds will celebrate Jerry Garcia‘s 80th birthday with special Jerry Garcia Night promotions. Special event tickets are required to qualify for all four promotions, and a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will go to the Rex Foundation, the Grateful Dead’s nonprofit charitable organization.

First, on July 22nd, the Reds will honor Jerry Garcia when they take on the St. Louis Cardinals. All those who purchase a special ticket will receive a limited edition Garcia Reds hat adorned with the guitarist’s famous handprint with the Reds logo in the palm.

Next, on August 1st, Jerry’s actual birthday, the New York Yankees will celebrate Jerry Garcia Bobblehead Night, where the first 1,000 fans who purchase a special event ticket will receive a Jerry Garcia New York Yankees bobblehead as the Yanks take on the Seattle Mariners.

Then on August 2nd, Jerry’s hometown team, the San Francisco Giants, will celebrate the late guitarist at Oracle Park as they take on the Los Angeles Dodgers. Fans who purchase a special event ticket will receive a Jerry Garcia San Francisco Giants t-shirt. The game will also feature live music, with details to be announced.

Finally, on August 9th, the day Garcia died in 1995, the Boston Red Sox will host Jerry Day at Fenway Park as they take on the Atlanta Braves. Grateful Dead tribute act Playing Dead will perform a set of Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia songs before the first pitch, and fans who purchase a special event ticket will receive a Jerry Garcia Boston Red Sox bobblehead.
