Buffalo jam quintet moe. said goodbye to 2019 with a show at Utica’s Stanley Theater in their home state of New York.

The band’s New Year’s Eve show, with its “Roaring ’20s” theme, began with an all-acoustic first set that saw guitarists Al Schnier and Chuck Garvey don acoustic guitars for the opening song, “It”. After that, Al traded in his acoustic guitar for a mandolin for the next two songs, “Time Again” and “Shoot First”. Al then went back to his trusty acoustic guitar for the final three songs of the set: a cover of the Allman Brothers Band’s “Statesboro Blues” followed by two originals, “Where Does The Time Go” and “Tambourine”.

Set two saw the band return to their traditional electric instruments. They put them to good use as they kicked off the second set with an extra-large, segued segment comprised of “Tailspin”, into “Puebla”, into “Don’t Fuck With The Flo”, into “Tubing The River Styx”, into “The Pit”. After that massive run of songs, the band debuted a cover of Blind Willie McTell‘s “St. Louis Blues (Fare You Well)”. Then came moe.’s own “Opium”, after which “New Hope For The New Year” closed out the second set.

The final set of the evening began with “Along For The Ride”, followed by “Nebraska”. As the clock began to inch ever-closer to midnight, the band debuted another cover, Kurt Weill & Bertolt Brecht‘s “Mack the Knife”. However, they managed to wrap it up with enough time to launch into the fan-favorite “Silver Sun”, which took the band into the New Year’s countdown and the obligatory “Auld Lang Syne”. The band finished out the final set with a few go-to originals including “Rebubula”, “Four”, and “Farmer Ben”, which segued into “Timmy Tucker” to close out the set. moe. finally returned to the Stanley Theater stage to close out their New Year’s Eve celebration with a “Spine Of A Dog” encore.
