moe. and their fans enjoyed some sunny island vibes when the popular jam band hosted the third installment of their tropical throe.down destination event at the Jewel Paradise Cove in Runaway Bay, Jamaica last month. The multi-day music event also featured performances from bands including The New Mastersounds and BIG Something in addition to nightly sets from moe., who filled their setlists throughout the weekend with covers ranging from Led Zeppelin‘s “Immigrant Song”, to Jimmy Cliff‘s “The Harder They Come”.

One of the stand-out cover performances played during the weekend came on the event’s final day, when the band invited Emma Derhak—daughter of bassist Rob Derhak—to join them in performing their rendition of Steely Dan‘s “Reelin’ in the Years”. Just as they had done during their New Year’s Eve performance a few weeks prior, the confident young singer helped the band tear through their version of the 1973 classic rock single with zero stage fright. Following a brief solo as part of the song’s opening moments from guitarist Chuck Garvey, Emma took hold of the performance by taking the band and the audience into the opening lyrics. This was far from a serious sit-in, as she was visibly overcome with joyous emotion and even cracked a huge smile while singing, “So you grab a piece of something, that you think is gonna last.”

The rest of the band joined in during the song’s anthemic chorus, but Emma continued having fun as the song’s lead vocalist throughout the remaining verses. Fans can watch the video below to relive the feel-good musical performance in full.

The band also shared the pro-shot video of their performance of “32 Things”, which was played the night prior during the second set of their show on January 12th. Their performance of the lively tune even featured some GoPro-style camera angles, giving viewers an up-close, in-your-face look at guitarist Al Schnier during his solos. Fans can also check out the video below to watch moe.’s 14-minute performance of the song off their 1996 No Doy LP.
