On Saturday, Mountain Jam kicked off the third day of their four-day event at the festival’s new location, Bethel, NY’s Bethel Woods Center for the Arts.  As you may recall, Bethel Woods once played host to another well-known music festival: Woodstock.

As Mountain Jam promised to shift their focus “back to the jam” for their 2019 event, Saturday saw a special Gov’t Mule Woodstock tribute set in honor of the iconic event’s 50th anniversary, along with performances by Phil Lesh & Friends, Willie Nelson & Family, The Revivalists, Alison Krauss, Lukas Nelson & Promise Of The Real, Amy Helm, Brandon “Taz” Niederauer, Andy Frasco & The U.N., Scott Sharrard, Consider The Source, and more.

John Molo handled duties behind the drum kit for Mule’s tribute set after drummer Matt Abts fell ill and could not perform. Warren Haynes opened up the lengthy set with only Lukas Nelson & Promise Of The Real’s percussionist Tato Melgar for Richie Havens‘ “Freedom”. With Melgar and the remainder of Gov’t Mule joining the stage, the band moved forward with Santana‘s “Jingo”, which was followed up by The Who’s “Eyesight To The Blind (The Hawker)” and “Listening To You”. Mule moved forward with Ten Years After‘s “I Can’t Keep From Crying, Sometimes” before inviting Lukas Nelson onstage for covers of The Band‘s “This Wheel’s On Fire”, the Grateful Dead‘s “Dark Star”, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young’s “Find The Cost Of Freedom”, and Stills & Young’s “Mr. Soul.”

Haynes and company moved forward with Screamin’ Jay Hawkins‘ “I Put A Spell On You”, which was made popular by Creedence Clearwater Revival. Next, Mule invited up Sister Sparrows’ Arleigh Kincheloe for Janis Joplin‘s “Piece Of My Heart” before inviting up Arleigh’s brother Jackson Kincheloe and a group of backing vocalists for a cover of Sly & The Family Stone‘s “I Want To Take You Higher”. Sans the Kincheloe siblings, the all-star cast closed things out with The Beatles‘ “With A Little Help From My Friends”. Gov’t Mule returned to the stage to deliver a lone encore of Jimi Hendrix‘s “Voodoo Child (Slight Return)”.
