MTV is the latest outlet to throw its hat into the world of at-home live streams with the launch of Unplugged At Home. This new series comes as the entertainment world grapples with how to survive during widespread quarantines caused by the proliferation of the novel coronavirus.

The first installment of Unplugged At Home features a performance from Wyclef Jean, playing at his home in front of an opulent fish tank. The 2000s hitmaker jumps straight into the performance with an ad-libbed musical explanation of what’s happening, “Welcome to MTV Unplugged At Home/Wyclef on self-quarantine, catching the vibe/Back at home, I’ma be here for a couple weeks ’till things get better,” then drops right into the ever-relevant “If I Was President”. The singer interlaced the song with the story of when he first played the tune, which was on the Chapelle Show in 2004, and he admits that the song was actually improvised after he “just caught a vibe.”

After the modernized version of “If I Was President”, where Wyclef shouts out various presidential candidates, he introduces the story behind “Hips Don’t Lie”. It turns out that Wyclef wrote the song a good two years before the Shakira version came out, when he was working on the soundtrack for Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights, and was published under the name “Dance Like This”. Wyclef then closed out the session with his hit “Gone Till November”, after reminding everyone to be cautious and take care of the elderly during this trying times.
