Mungion took to Facebook on Monday to announce the newest addition to the band in the form of drummer Nick Van Leer. The jam quartet had announced last month that their hometown New Year’s Eve concert at Martyrs‘ in Chicago, IL would be their last with drummer Matt Kellen. In a Facebook post, Kellen thanked all the members of Mungion and their fans for the three-and-a-half years they spent together, beginning at Summer Camp Music Festival in 2016. Kellen stated that he wished them no ill will and that his decision to leave was amicable and his own.

This then prompted the band to put out a public call on Facebook for any and all drummers to send an audition tape to the group’s official email. Now, 32 days after that initial post, Mungion announced in a new post that Nick Van Leer will assume drumming duties for the band going forward.

The band didn’t want Van Leer to feel like a perfect stranger to the audience, however, so they offered up a bevy of biographical information on their new beat-keeper. Van Leer hails from New Jersey, but has since relocated to the band’s native Chicago, and brought along a furry friend for the ride in the form of his cat Maurice. Find out all about Nick Van Leer from Mungion’s Facebook post below.

Mungion is about to hit the road with their new drummer as they kick off their winter 2020 tour with a show at Canopy Club in Urbana, IL, which will serve as Van Leer’s first official gig with the band. Mungion then plays a series of gigs throughout the midwest in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Indiana until heading west for three shows in Colorado, after which point they return to the midwest once again. A full list of tour dates and tickets are available through the band’s website.
