On Sunday, May 27th, Chicago-based jam quartet Mungion returned to Chillicothe, IL’s Summer Camp Music Festival, where they delivered a Sunday night performance to a crowd of hometown fans and other music lovers from around the county at the festival’s Campfire Stage.

In addition to an extended “Herbert” jam and strong readings of “One Night Stan”, “Truckalove”, and more, the band brought things down a notch with a bizarre mid-set cover of crooner classic “Fly Me To The Moon” sung by special guest Jort Ferguson, the 10-Foot Man, who we’re 90% sure was just a guy on another guy’s shoulders wearing a big trenchcoat—Little Rascals-syle.

To close their set, Mungion offered up a throwback cover that had crowd dancing, singing, and laughing along: Bloodhound Gang‘s “Bad Touch” from their seminal album, Hooray For Boobies. You know, “you and me baby ain’t nothing but mammals, so let’s do it like they do on the discovery channel…”

Thankfully, Mungion has now released a full pro-shot video of their performance at Summer Camp 2018 for us all to enjoy, courtesy of Andy Fabitz. You can check out the video and a timestamped (by song) setlist below:

Despite the relatively recent beginnings of the project, Mungion has become one of the fastest rising acts in the jam scene, earning a legion of fans with their energetic, raucous live shows, and jazz-inflected improvisations. Composed of Justin Reckamp (guitar/vocals), Joe Re (keyboards/vocals), Sean Carolan (bass/vocals), and Matt Kellen (drums/vocals), the group has crafted ambitious compositions that transform in a live setting, given the band’s penchant for fearless, no-holds-barred jams and fierce onstage demeanor. The band recently released their first-ever official live album, Live Fun Vol. 1, featuring selections from their early-2018 headlining tour.

On October 5th, Mungion will release their sophomore album, Ferris Wheel’s Day Off, which sees the quartet joined by a rotating cast of musicians including a full horn section. The album was produced by the band’s good friend, Ben Factor, and showcases the group’s stellar sense of humor alongside their always-impressive musical abilities.

You can stream the first two singles from the album, “One Night Stan” and “Makanda”, below via Spotify. For more information on Mungion’s upcoming releases and tour dates, head to the band’s website.
