My Morning Jacket appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday night to perform “Feel You” from the band’s new album, The Waterfall II.

A follow-up to 2015’s The Waterfall, this latest offering is comprised of songs that didn’t fit on the album five years ago. Frontman Jim James was adamant upon the new record’s release that this was not simply a collection of B-sides, telling Rolling Stone, “these are the E and F sides of a set of 3 albums including The Waterfall and The Waterfall II.”

In their performance for the Jimmy Kimmel Live Concert Series, My Morning Jacket uses clever video editing techniques to make the band appear to be all together. In reality, each member of the group is in front of a different green screen—each of which don many more colors than green—giving a unique feel to the performance that almost boarders on normal.

As for the song itself, “Feel You”, there are thematic connections to the pandemic that has separated friends, fans, and bandmates alike. James’ repeated phrase “And all I want to do is feel you,” is so much more relevant now than it ever could have been in 2015. The song rings with classic MMJ sound as “Feel You” eventually devolves into ambient guitar solos and comes to an overdriven-laden conclusion.
