Nathaniel Rateliff brings his year to a close with the launch of his latest musical initiative, “The Marigold Singles,” a series of 7″ vinyl releases via Stax Records, with proceeds going to benefit the guitarist and singer’s philanthropic arm, The Marigold Project.

The first release as part of the new series hears Rateliff perform on a pair of duet recordings alongside John Prine and Courtney Marie Andrews, with proceeds going to benefit the Sierra Club Foundation and Harm Reduction Coalition.

The A-side recording of Friday’s single release is that of Prine’s own “Sam Stone”, which initially appeared on the tracklisting of the veteran Americana artist’s self-titled debut album which arrived in 1971. The B-side of the 7-inch is an acoustic recording of another Prine original ballad, “Summer’s End”, which features guest vocal work from Courtney Marie Andrews. The original recording of “Summer’s End” appeared on Prine’s 2018 album, The Tree of Forgiveness, which is up for “Best Americana Album” at the 2020 Grammy Awards.
