After making their triumphant return with 2021’s The Future, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats rode their reunion to the set of Austin City Limits. The band’s sophomore appearance on the flagship PBS music program, currently in its 48th season, will premiere on Saturday, January 14th in an hour split with Nashville singer-songwriter Adia Victoria. Ahead of the episode, Live For Live Music is premiering an exclusive clip of “Face Down In The Moment”.
Taken from The Future, “Face Down In The Moment” is a song anthemic enough to parallel Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats’ recent return to glory. After captivating the contemporary rock scene with a vintage blend of soul and R&B elements through a trio of acclaimed studio releases with the Night Sweats, Rateliff strayed from the pack to deliver his 2020 solo debut, And It’s Still Alright. The folk departure from the incendiary frontman made for the idyllic partner to COVID lockdowns, having landed just weeks before the iron curtain of quarantine came down.
As fans and musicians alike sheltered in place, the reunion bubbled beneath the surface. In February 2021, Rateliff was booked as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live and surprised audiences across the country when he took the stage with The Night Sweats. The band was back together.
Like a societal spirit animal, the ensemble reunited just as people all over the world were finally able to join together once again. The song and dance of the group’s still-firey performances and cathartic reunion record The Future became a soundtrack to the gradual return to normalcy. Now, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats are back on Austin City Limits for the first time since 2016, showing just how far we have all come since then.
