On Wednesday, August 22nd, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Nightsweats returned to Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado, marking the first of two back-to-back shows at the iconic outdoor venue with support from NPR Tiny Desk darlings, Tank & The Bangas. Before the run, fans became worried about the viability of these Red Rocks performances, given that the group had canceled a show at the Belly Up Aspen, announcing that the band was too sick to perform the lead-up mountain-town shows. However, clearly, the days of rest paid off, with Nathaniel Rateliff & The Nightsweats playing standout shows in their hometown’s most beloved venue.

While Rateliff opened Wednesday night’s show noting that “I’ve got to be honest with you: I’ve been sick. We had to cancel a show last night,” the opening remarks came after his declaration that “These two nights are the most important nights of our year.” With that, the group launched into a fiery performance, highlighting the group’s genre-blending talents. From soulful crooning to boot-stompin’ country to heartfelt folk melodies and beyond, Nathaniel Rateliff and company worked through classics of their songbook, including an end-of-set take on debatably their most famous tune, “S.O.B.”, evoking a huge breadth of emotions across the crowd.
