Earlier this month, a 10-track collection of previously unheard Jeff Buckley demos were released, entitled You And I. Recorded shortly after he was signed to his label in 1993, the unheard demos sat forgotten for over 20 years, and feature mostly covers, varying from The Smiths, to Bob DylanSly & The Family StoneBukka White and Led Zeppelin, as well as a few musical rarities and two original songs.

Today, a new music video for Buckley’s cover of Bob Dylan’s “Just Like A Woman” has been released, as created by interactive media company Interlude and Blind design studios. Unlike a traditional music video, this one is entirely interactive, giving viewers complete control over the love story’s narrative. By clicking different story cells as they pass through the screen, the scene changes. There are 73 different story cells to click on, with around 1 sexdecillion possible outcomes (that’s 1 with 51 zeros).

The music can also be controlled by clicking different story cells. The song starts out with a young Buckley’s voice and a guitar, but can add over 16,000 different combinations of musical choices, from a piano to an entire orchestra with a choir. This unique platform allows for the originally stripped-down cut of the song to be experienced endlessly different each time.

“The goal of this video is for both existing and new fans to enjoy many ways of experiencing the music, and for each individual audience member to return over and over to be involved with the emotion differently each time,” Yoni Block, Interlude CEO and co- founder, tells Mashable.

Part of what makes the old recordings in You And I so spectacular is their true nature. The interactive music video platform gives fans the opportunity to experience Buckley’s music in a more diverse setting, as the artist left this Earth much to soon only four years after his career truly began.

Jeff Buckley’s Previously-Unreleased Recording Of The Smiths Surfaces With New Music Video

“Jeff Buckley fans have always felt a strong personal connection with his music, which should be especially true with the incredibly intimate recordings on You and I,” explains Legacy Recordings president Adam Block.

“We hope this video will be a moving way to extend that personal connection by allowing people to express themselves and how the song makes them feel in almost endless ways.”
