From August 24th – 26th, the Night Lights Music Festival will return to The Heron in Sherman, NY, for its seventh year. The three-day event will be anchored by space-rock innovators Papadosio and prog-jam favorites Dopapod. The festival will also be highlighted by three sets from hometown favorite groove rock quartet Aqueous, who will perform three sets over the course of the weekend including an “AQoustic” set on the intimate Cafe Stage. This will mark the band’s sixth year at Night Lights. You can watch footage of Aqueous from last year’s Night Lights Music Festival below, courtesy of YouTube user strawberryIsland Dweller:

Singer-guitarist Mihali Savoulidis of Twiddle will serve as the festival’s first-ever “Artist-at-Large,” popping into various sets for surprise sit-ins throughout the weekend. Savoulidis will also play alongside some of his favorite musicians during the weekend’s Mihali and Frends set. Night Lights will also feature Colorado electronic-jam outfit SunSquabi and Austin-based psych rockers The Bright Light Social Hour as well as Chicago based prog-jazz fusion quartet Mungion.

Ithaca-based jamtronica favorites Jimkata will also be returning for their sixth year, marking the band’s only performance of the summer festival season. This year’s diverse lineup also features Night Lights mainstays Lazlo Hollyfeld and Aircraft, along with Western New York favorites Intrepid Travelers, Folkfaces and Space Junk.

Night Lights 2017 will also feature a variety of very special tribute sets, including a Lotus cover set from Cleveland’s Broccoli Samurai and a Sublime tribute from Buffalo’s Funktional Flow. Relics will return for a reprisal of their Pink Floyd tribute set from last year’s event. The weekend will also feature Nightfall of Diamonds, an all-star ensemble of musicians celebrating the music of the Grateful Dead.

In addition, in one of the festival’s most exciting scheduled sets, Albany’s Mister F will be showing off their 8-bit savy in a video game-themed set dubbed “Game Genie.” Scott Hannay of Mister F explained his excitement about playing video game music for a festival crowd to Live for Live Music. “I’m really excited to collide Mister F’s material with the music of my childhood,” he says, “I’ve been listening to and learning classical video game music for as long as I can remember.”

Local resident Kevin Gaynor of Buffalo notes that attendees will surely not want to miss Boss Tweed and the Carpetbaggers. “Seriously, one of the best musical sets I’ve ever seen.” Not much is known about the origins of the band or who is behind their patented lucha libre masks, but this much is certain: If you’re a fan of the bands on the Night Lights lineup, then the mysterious Boss Tweed and the Carpetbaggers set is surely not to be missed.

In the evening, the woods and grounds of the Heron become an enchanted forest, lit by incredible LED lighting installations and art exhibits. In addition to the music and lights, guests will be able to do yoga, go swimming at the beach, take biking/ hiking adventures, and participate in “mushroom walks.” Food, craft beer from Community Beer Works, and a variety of artisans and vendors will be available on site.

Night Lights has even added themed nights to the list of this year’s activities. Friday night, the festival will host a “Time Traveler’s Ball,” with prizes awarded for best future and past costumes. Saturday night’s “Space Disco” theme will crown a King and Queen, with the prizes awarded for the evening’s most creative and unique costumes.

Night Lights originally took place each year on the second weekend of September, but after back-to-back years of cold weather and rain, the event was moved to the end of August. Festival organizer and self-proclaimed “Mayor Of Fun” Brian Enright notes, “the sense of community is overwhelming – especially fans, staff and volunteers that have attended since the beginning. All of those weekends of cold rain have really brought people together to support each other.”

Tickets are currently on sale and include woods camping. A limited amount of car camping is available on a first come, first served basis. Car and RV passes are available for an additional fee. Day passes are also available.
