Charlie Overbey is a man of many talents. For decades his country, honky-tonk style has been a staple of the Los Angels music scene where he also promotes shows and serves as a booking agent. On Friday, Overbey added another notch to his belt as he released Me & My Guitar, a compilation of acoustic tracks from 25 different artists. The compilation, available exclusively on Bandcamp, also serves as a fundraiser for the National Independent Venue Association (NIVA).

Among the plethora of talented guitarists, in addition to Overbey himself, are Jim James (My Morning Jacket), Marcus KingDuane Betts (The Allman Betts Band), Chris Vos (The Record Company), Charlie Starr (Blackberry Smoke), Adam Slack (The Struts), Micah Nelson aka “Particle Kid“, Suzanne Santo, Jesse Malin, Sam Morrow, Langhorne Slim, Pete Anderson, and more.

Overbey said of the project in a press release,

I am hoping that not only will this album help raise awareness of the financial severity facing all venue owners, bar staff, stage crew & touring musicians, it will also give the listener a badly needed break in their day to listen to over an hour’s worth of calming and heartfelt music coming straight from the souls of these artists. Everyone deserves the chance to forget their troubles, even if it is just temporary. What better way than through the music.

While the Save Our Stages Act may have been included in the latest stimulus package passed by Congress, venues and promoters across the country remain in peril. Dr. Anthony Fauci has predicted that, if the United States is able to stick to its vaccination schedule, live events could return en masse by the early fall. In the meantime, however, concerts and festivals continue to be postponed or outright cancelled and the shutdown of live events nears the one-year mark.
