How would you like to hear great live music for FREE and do a good global deed in the process? If you missed their debut last summer, never fear; artists for the second installment of  Global Citizen Festival in Central Park have just been announced!  This year ‘s lineup will feature the likes of Stevie Wonder, Kings of Leon, John Mayer, and Alicia Keys. Hopefully this time things stay dry for Kings of Leon‘s perfomance (See: Governor’s Ball Cancels Headliners for Day 1 Due to Rain).  The festival is organized by the Global Poverty Project, and will take place Saturday, September 27, 2013 in NYC.

“The focus of this year’s festival is celebrating success and accelerating progress to a world without extreme poverty by 2030″

The festival hopes to facilitate said progress by educating young people on various problems affecting citizens around the world, ranging from women’s equality, education, healthcare, and poverty.  In other words, you don’t just blindly donate money to an unknown cause to earn a ticket; you must watch and share informational videos on said global issues to be entered into a lottery to win free tickets to the festival.

“We don’t ask for charity, we ask for justice.”

The tickets will be raffled in pairs, with a total of 27,000 available.  A very limited number of V.I.P. tickets will be available for purchase through Ticketmaster, apparently with “exclusive offers for Citi cardholders”. Although you don’t donate money in exchange for admission, some generous individuals choose to pledge donations in addition to their earned tickets.  Last summer, the first annual Global Festival raised $1.3 billion in pledged donations, tried and true evidence that awareness encourages action! The 2012 lineup featured Neil Young with Crazy Horse, The Black Keys, Foo Fighters, and more. Check out our review from last year: REVIEW!
