As Oh Boy Records celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, the festivities are bittersweet in the wake of co-founder John Prine‘s passing last year from COVID-19. While the record company Prine founded in 1981 alongside Al Bunetta announced a schedule of anniversary releases, it appears that the label has some additional tricks up its sleeve.

Last night’s Grammy Awards saw Brandi Carlile perform a touching rendition of Prine’s “I Remember Everything” during the “In Memoriam” segment. The song is the final one Prine ever wrote and looks back on a life well-lived, and it earned him two posthumous Grammys for “Best American Roots Song” and “Best American Roots Performance.” On Monday, as videos of Grammy performances flooded the internet, Oh Boy Records quietly uploaded a studio rendition of Carlile’s cover of “I Remember Everything” to its YouTube page.

Of note, the thumbnail image of the song, as well as the video’s description, states that the cover appears on Broken Hearts & Dirty Windows: Songs of John Prine, Volume 2. The curious thing is that Oh Boy Records has not announced a follow-up to the 2010 John Prine tribute album, Broken Hearts & Dirty Windows: Songs of John Prine. Yet, on the record company’s website, pre-orders are now open for the second volume on CD, LP, and digital download. No additional details are given on the website, but a visit to Apple Music shows that the 12-track collection will be available on October 8th, 2021.

Listen to Brandi Carlile’s cover of John Prine’s “I Remember Everything”, and stay tuned for more news on Broken Hearts & Dirty Windows: Songs of John Prine, Volume 2.
