The trailer for the film, executive produced by Martin Scorsese, Brian Grazer, and Ron Howard, chronicles the career of the Canadian rock group the Band, beginning with Robbie Robertson and Levon Helm‘s journey to the Mississippi Delta when they were teenagers. From there, the film will go on to detail the Band’s meteoric rise to fame as Bob Dylan‘s backing band when he went electric. Iconic imagery of the big pink house in Woodstock, NY where the Band wrote and recorded Music From Big Pink, is examined by Robertson along with archival footage of Helm.

The trailer also takes an unflinching look at the excesses that tore the group apart in the mid-1970s, which ultimately led to their breakup in 1976. The documentary also comes full circle as it chronicles the Band’s iconic farewell concert, The Last Waltz, which was made into a concert film by Scorsese.

The film boasts appearances from a host of fellow musicians including Bruce Springsteen, Eric Clapton, Taj Mahal, Ronnie Hawkins, Van Morrison, Peter Gabriel, Bob Dylan, and many more.
