Parquet Courts Share Final 'Sympathy For Life' Single, "Homo Sapien" [Video]

Parquet Courts have one more song up their sleeves with “Homo Sapien” ahead of Friday’s release of Sympathy For Life. The New York-bred indie post-punk outfit will celebrate the release of its eighth album on Friday with a show at Music Hall of Williamsburg.

The guitar-heavy edge of “Homo Sapien” stands as a stark contrast to some of the previously released, groove-oriented Sympathy For Life tracks. The band reverts to an earlier form for this fuzzed-out rocker that centers around A Savage‘s scathing vocal delivery, “The erotic quality of not feeling meaningless / Reflecting a loving gaze / Commanding and amorous / A matte-finished wishing well / Seductive and glamorous.” Much of Sympathy For Life was born out of extensive in-studio jams edited and spliced together, whereas “Homo Sapien” finds the band heading back to the garage.

In addition to the Williamsburg show, Parquet Courts has a number of other events planned to celebrate the new album. Tomorrow, October 20th, the band will host the one-night-only premiere of Feel Free – Sympathy For Life, Visualized. The streaming event will feature the full-length debut of the album paired with immersive visuals created by 11 different artists. The showing, set to air at 10 p.m. ET, will also include an introduction by NBA Hall of Famer and Deadhead extraordinaire Bill Walton, as well as contributions from Adult Swim‘s Joe Pera.

The band also has a number of “Power of Eleven” global happenings set to take place. The next event, “Homosapien”, will take place today, October 19th, in Paris where fans can join A Savage for a life drawing class and receive a custom drawing pad designed by the band. On Thursday, the band will celebrate Sympathy For Life with a special DJ set at Eldorado Auto Skooter in Brooklyn that will feature bumper cars, arcade games, dancing, and more.
