James Corden brought some serious star power to his “Carpool Karaoke” segment when he met up with Paul McCartney in the Beatle’s hometown of Liverpool. Sir Paul took The Late Late Show host on a tour of the city, which included a visit to his teenage home and a stop at the famed Penny Lane.

In typical Corden fashion, the whole thing is rife with self-deprecating humor, particularly when the host compares his own songwriting abilities to those of the two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee. It also takes an emotional turn when McCartney tells the heart-wrenching story behind “Let It Be” before joining Corden for a rendition of the classic. From there, Sir Paul keeps things introspective as he reflects on how far he’s come before wrapping up the segment with an intimate concert at a Liverpool pub, surprising its unwitting patrons.

As far as karaoke partners go, the guy who wrote “Hey Jude” is pretty tough to beat. Check the clip out for yourself below.
