On Sunday, Paul Simon closed out the main stage lineup at San Francisco’s Outside Lands with a two-hour headlining set including a special guest appearance by local music hero Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead.

At the midpoint of Simon’s five-song encore, Simon began to tell a story about preparing for his performance at 1967’s Monterey Pop Festival. As he explained, he went to the Grateful Dead’s house and knocked on the door, and Weir answered. He continued, “We’ve been friends ever since, but this is actually our first duet. Ladies and gentlemen, that’s Bob Weir!”

Weir took the stage in an elegant woven cape and helped at guitar texture and chorus backing vocals on a rendition of Simon & Garfunkel classic, “The Boxer”. Watch footage of the collaboration below:
