Last Wednesday, the iconic ’90s rock act Pearl Jam began their brief U.S. run of “Home” and “Away” shows, which kicked off with a pair of performances in their native Seattle, WA, marking their first shows in their home city in five years. Following Wednesday night’s performance Safeco Field, for their second and final performance at the arena on Friday night, the group continued the trend of inviting out special guests and offering standout covers in addition to their more traditional catalog.

Across the band’s extended set and double encore, Pearl Jam offered up plenty of standard, classic tunes, such as hits “Even Flow” and “Daughter”. However, Eddie Vedder and company used the performance to honor recently lost musical icons in addition to paying to tribute to Seattle’s ’90s grunge scene, which the band first grew to popularity in. The first tribute of the night was the live debut of “Missing”, paying tribute to Chris Cornell who penned the song. Later, to start the first encore, the group performed Tom Petty‘s “I Won’t Back Down”, honoring another iconic artist lost in 2017.

Up next, Pearl Jam yet again referenced the Seattle grunge scene, performing a cover of Mother Love Bone‘s “Crown Of Thorns”. Kim Thayil, the guitarist for Cornell’s Soundgarden, came out for the next song, a take on MC5‘s “Kick Out The Jams”. The guitarist later returned for the second encore, performing Iggy & The Stooges‘ “Search And Destroy” and Dead Boys‘ “Sonic Reducer” with Steve Turner and Mark Arm of the grunge band Mud Honey.
