Perpetual Groove committed longtime live staple “Out Here” to tape with a new studio recording of the track out now. Available alongside an animated video by Cloudberry Animations, the single comes ahead of the Sweet Oblivious Antidote – 20th Anniversary Edition reissue.

A favorite of the band’s live performances since the mid-2000s, “Out Here” benefits from the studio treatment and is also the group’s first song released in spatial audio with Dolby Atmos exclusively on Apple Music. The track also marks the band’s first new original release since its self-titled album in 2019, followed in 2021 by the C’mon. Covers? EP.

“We’ve wanted to give ‘Out Here’ the studio treatment for quite some time,” keyboardist Matt McDonald said. “It was great to revisit and rearrange this tune with a fresh approach. We all couldn’t be happier with the way it turned out and can’t wait to share it with everyone.”

“Out Here” also comes at a time of renewed excitement for the band. After being sidelined by the pandemic, Perpetual Groove returned to live performances only to say goodbye to longtime drummer Albert Suttle following the band’s 2021 New Year’s Eve show. Since then, Darren Stanley (Jimmy Herring, Col. Bruce Hampton) has commanded the kit and helped the band host its first Amberland festival in ten years over this past Memorial Day weekend.

With all of this momentum, Perpetual Groove is looking back on its seminal 2003 debut, Sweet Oblivious Antidote. The band will release a remixed and remastered 20th-anniversary edition of the album early next year, pressing it on vinyl for the first time and including two newly recorded bonus tracks.
