Original bassist for The New Mastersounds for the last 18 years, Pete Shand, needs our help. According to a Facebook post by the band, Pete has developed a spinal condition as a direct result of playing the bass. He is suffering with severe nerve pain, numbness and muscle wastage, and is currently bedridden, in dire need of an emergency surgery, and unable to fly home to Europe for it. The band was able to schedule an operation for Thursday, August 24, of this week–but are in no financial place to fund the essential medical treatment.

$40,000 Needs to be Raised by Wednesday, August 23, for Pete Shand’s Emergency Surgery

The band has started a GoFundMe page to help raise money for Pete’s emergency operation. “Without this surgery, Pete’s career is over… no more filling the world with joyful funkiness,” the band writes. “We have managed to schedule emergency surgery for him, and this is where we need your help. By Wednesday, we need to raise a deposit for the surgery, or the doctors will refuse to operate. If you love The New Mastersounds, Pete, or funk music in general, please consider donating any amount to help Pete achieve a full recover. Your donation will help Pete to have this much needed surgery and recover, just in time for NMS fall tour.”

The music community needs to come together to help our fellow brother get through this excruciatingly difficult time. Head to The New Mastersounds’ GoFundMe page to support Pete Shand, and please help spread the word. Donate HERE!

Get better soon, Pete!
