Last week, Turing Pharmaceuticals CEO Martin Shkreli made music blog headlines when he purchased the single copy of Wu-Tang Clan’s Once Upon A Time in Shaolin. Shkreli spent $2 Million on the single disc, which he has reportedly yet to listen to. Shaolin won’t be publicly available for 88 years, according to the contract.
In a new interview with NY Daily news, Shkreli discusses how he wants other bands to do the same, including Radiohead and Glassjaw, the latter of which hasn’t released new music since 2002.
Meanwhile, he said he wants to start paying other bands to make private albums, specifically citing Radiohead and Glassjaw, the Long Island hardcore that hasn’t dropped an LP since 2002.
“I’m still open to exploration to the what and who and how,” he said.
Shkreli commented on the ridiculous story regarding Wu-Tang or Bill Murray being able to heist the album, saying “It is me they would not want to be f—ing with.”
He also discussed why fans of Wu-Tang shouldn’t hate him, despite purchasing the limited edition release and live streaming himself listening to other music. He points out that the group’s recently-released album, A Better Tomorrow (2014), only sold 21,000 copies. “If fans really cared about the Wu-Tang Clan, they would’ve bought their album,” said Shkreli.
