At the start of November, a hardcover coffee-table photography book chronicling the Grateful Dead at different points of their career was released via Rock Out Books. The book, Eyes of the World: Grateful Dead Photography 1965 – 1995, was co-edited by former Relix editor-in-chief Josh Baron in collaboration with famed rock photographer Jay Blakesberg. At the end of last week, in promotion of the fine art photography book, a short video showing Phil Lesh flipping through the book and sharing his thoughts was released.

‘Eyes Of The World’ Offers Definitive Collection Of Grateful Dead Photos From Throughout Their Career

During the clip, Lesh reminisces about the Grateful Dead and reflects on the band and his own aesthetics throughout the year. Opening with the hilarious comments “I wish I had never grown that beard” and “I could use some better glasses,” Lesh quips about certain images throughout. He points out his favorite photograph of himself and later, looking at a picture of the band, asks, “Would you buy a used car from these people?” before noting, “I wouldn’t want to play cards with ’em.”

You can check out the video for yourself below, and buy Eyes of the World: Grateful Dead Photography 1965 – 1995 on the book’s website.
