Phish will release soundboard audio of the band’s performance at Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, WI on August 1st, 1998 as the latest installment in their archival release series. The concert will be available in full on the LivePhish streaming app on Friday, June 19th.

The release follows 3/8/1993 as the most recent archival output from the Phish vaults. Archivist Kevin Shapiro took to the airwaves on SiriusXM‘s Phish Radio on Monday to announce the release and preview a few tracks on his From The Archives program, which will be replayed throughout the week.

This concert from the band’s 1998 summer tour of the United States, which came after a nine-show jaunt through Europe, was unofficially dubbed the “Jukebox Tour” by fans due to the high number of covers the band debuted over the 23-show tour. August 1st, 1998 was certainly no exception, as Phish came right out of the gate with the debut of Led Zeppelin‘s “Ramble On”. The show also featured Phish’s debut performance of “Been Caught Stealing” by Jane’s Addiction to kick off the encore, as well as a run through the staple cover “Funky Bitch”, and the exceedingly rare “Albuquerque” by Neil Young.

Of course, what makes this show noteworthy some 22 years later is the Phish songs that were played that night in Wisconsin. Fans got an early indication of the special evening ahead when “Esther” was busted out for the first time in 139 shows, in between “Mike’s Song” and “Weekapaug Groove”. Another rare find that evening came in the form of Page McConnell‘s instrumental “Magilla”, which found itself in the middle of a “2001” sandwich. That evening also saw an 18-minute “Tweezer” that has since found its way into the jam charts on Phish.net, alongside noteworthy versions of “Weekapaug Groove”, the aforementioned “Magilla”, and “Fluffhead” from 8/1/1998.

This latest archival release will be available to stream and purchase on the LivePhish app on Friday, June 18th.
