Thirty-one years ago today, on August, 7th, 1993, Phish took fans at the Darien Lake Performing Arts Center on a magical “Roller Coaster Of The Mind” using their narration in the song “Fly Famous Mockingbird” as a launching point for some true psychedelia.
The otherworldly amusement park was but one highlight of this show, which included a rocking opening “Llama” that kicked into a jammed-out “Stash” and a smoking “Maze” all in the first set.
The second set of this show featured some top-notch jams from the band, opening up with “2001” into a “Mike’s Song” which featured “Kung” in the middle. Highlights like “The Man Who Stepped Into Yesterday”, “The Sloth”, and “McGrupp and the Watchful Hosemasters” recalled the band’s earliest days, and Jon Fishman singing Prince‘s”Purple Rain” was the icing on the cake. A great, great show all around, Darien Lake will always go down as a classic in the Phish catalog.
