Phish ‘Dinner and a Movie’ Ep. 7 – 1/15/17 – Riviera Maya, MX – Full Show

The meal portion of this week’s Dinner and a Movie comes from keyboardist Page McConnell and features a pair of taco recipes. According to McConnell, both the show and the recipes were chosen in accordance with Tuesday being Cinco de Mayo. Page provided two different taco recipes—one for cauliflower and cabbage slaw vegan tacos and the other a more traditional ground beef taco—and encouraged viewers to add whatever protein they want. He also made sure to mention, “Another beauty of the taco is that it’s kind of a Mexican sandwich. And you all know how I feel about sandwiches.”

This week’s Mexico show follows Episode 1 (8/31/12 and Trey & Sue’s “Between Me and My Mouth” veggie chili), Episode 2 (7/27/14 and Mike’s favorite Hen of the Wood mushroom toast), Episode 3 (7/25/17 and Page’s Tuna Sandwich), Episode 4 (8/22/15 and the Fishmans’ three-course meal), Episode 5 (7/9/19 and the Anastasio family recipe for Eggplant Parmigiana), and Episode 6 (10/28/16 and Mike’s vegetarian feast).

Page’s taco recipe doesn’t go too far off-board, with the standard fix-ins of guacamole, shredded cheese, sour cream, black beans, and whatnot. He did go above and beyond, however, in providing added historical context for Cinco de Mayo. Page made sure to point out the fact that Cinco de Mayo is celebrated much more by gringos up north than by actual Mexicans down south. After providing his short answer essay for the Battle of Puebla, he added the caveat, “I just learned some of this so I thought I would share,” so as not to seem like a know-it-all. The glasses certainly don’t help that argument.

For Episode 7 of Dinner and a Movie, Phish has chosen Partners In Health as their non-profit beneficiary. As the announcement notes,

PIH is uniquely positioned to respond to the current COVID-19 crisis by leveraging deep experience in treating infectious disease outbreaks and responding to emergency situations around the world. PIH’s strong relationships within the communities where they work enables PIH to effectively mobilize high-impact programs to control the spread of the virus and ensure that the most vulnerable receive access to dignified care.
