On Friday, July 5th, Phish offered up their first of two performances at Boston, MA’s Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox. Friday night’s performance was highlighted by a 20-minute “Mercury”, a Type II “Tube”, and a well-executed two-song encore of “The Squirming Coil” and “Bug”, leaving fans in attendance begging for more heading into Saturday at the historic baseball stadium.

Following a solid first set, Phish returned to the stage to open up their second set with “Sand”, which saw Trey Anastasio and Page McConnell lock into some blissful interplay, backed by a bouncy groove set by Jon Fishman and Mike Gordon. “Sand” reached just over the 11-minute mark before the band dove into “Axilla”.

After recollecting themselves and taking a moment to catch their breaths, the quartet dove head first into an exploratory, 20-minute “Mercury”, arguably the most creative jam over the two-night Fenway run. Phish smoothly segued out of the massive “Mercury” into “Wading In The Velvet Sea”, which was followed up by a pairing of “Fuego” into “Say It To Me S.A.N.T.O.S.”. The band closed out their set with “Character Zero”, giving Trey one final opportunity to bounce around the stage.
