Phoebe Bridgers was the featured musical guest on last night’s episode of Saturday Night Live, where the talented indie guitarist/singer treated viewers to live renditions of “Kyoto” and “I Know the End”. Both original songs appeared on Bridgers’ Grammy-nominated Punisher studio album (“Kyoto” is also in the running for “Best Rock Song”).

Dressed in their trademark skeleton outfits, Bridgers and her band grooved their way through the opening performance of “Kyoto” to kick off her SNL debut. The music charged forward thanks to the added help from a small horns section which came alive during the chorus lines to add some color alongside the slightly-distorted guitars.

For her second performance of the night with “I Know the End”, Bridgers returned to the stage having swapped out her skeleton-inspired outfit for a black dress covered in pearls to match the song’s more gently, melancholy-sounding intro. Bridgers and her band played their way through the indie ballad while the music continued its gradual crescendo to reach its way to a satisfying, garage rock climax, with Bridgers even going so far as to lay waste to her guitar by the song’s end.
