English synthpop band Hot Chip brought the Freakout/Release Tour to The Great Hall At Avant Gardner in Brooklyn, NY on Tuesday with support from Friedberg and Hard Feelings. The show included a special guest appearance by Four Tet, who sat in on guitar for a cover of Beastie Boys‘ “Sabotage” during the encore.

London-based indie quartet Friedberg opened the show, followed by Hard Feelings, which is a collaboration between Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard and New York singer/songwriter Amy Douglas.

Following Friedberg and Hard Feelings’ opening sets, Hot Chip took the stage, beginning their set as they had at previous shows with “Flutes”, the band’s latest single, “Down”, and “Don’t Deny Your Heart”. After that, Amy Douglas returned to accompany the band on Hard Feelings’ “Dangerous”. The collaboration also included a performance of “Hungry Child”, after which the singer bid the audience adieu once more.

The remainder of the set saw renditions of “Over and Over”, “Straight to the Morning” (which included Prince‘s “17 Days” intro), “Night & Day”, and the title track off the band’s forthcoming album, “Freakout/Release”. “And I Was a Boy From School”, “One Life Stand”, and “Melody of Love” continued the party before the band concluded the set with “Alley Cats” and “Ready for the Floor”, which included William Onyeabor‘s “Good Name” outro.

For the encore, Hot Chip performed “Huarache Lights” and “White Wine and Fried Chicken” with the lyrics changed to “white wine and fried seitan.” The band then played “I Feel Better” before calling up Friedberg and Kieran Hebden, aka Four Tet, for a cover of “Sabotage” by Beastie Boys.

“We have the amazing Friedberg who were playing just prior to us,” Joe Goddard said. “And also, a friend from the same school that Alexis [Taylor], Owen [Clarke], and I attended when we were 12 years old: Kieran Hebden, Four Tet! We’re going to play a song by one of our favorite bands in the world pretty much, the Beastie Boys.”
