Neighbor stopped by the famed Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, NY on Friday. The Boston-based jam quartet, which began as a collaboration between Pink Talking Fish keyboardist Richard James and his childhood neighbor, guitarist Lyle Brewer, delivered two strong sets of mostly original compositions with allusions to Eagles, The Beatles, and Harlan Howard.

Joined by drummer Dean Johnston and bassist Dan Kelly, James and Brewer opened with “Silver I”, a track included on Rick’s Picks Vol. 11 – Silver that hadn’t been played in 38 shows. The band would go on to reprise the song with “Silver II” in the middle of the set ahead of an instrumental “We Need You”. Following “Baxter”, Neighbor squeezed some teases of Eagles’ “Life In The Fast Lane” and the original “Somerville Shuffle” into “Headrush” before delivering an “Elanor Rigby” jam in “Canopy” and finally closing out the set with “You’ve Got a Friend”.

Neighbor got a little more experimental in set two, inserting a “One For The Hoop” jam and “Planet Silver” tease into “Pine Tree”. Later, “Move Along Little Jimmy” flowed directly into the band’s debut of Harlan Howard’s “Nashville Wimmin'”, which continued right on into “Move Along Little Jimmy” before the band closed the set with “Cucamonga Carl”. For the encore, Neighbor played “Chicken” in a bluegrass style.
