Pigeons Playing Ping Pong made its grand return to the Crystal Bay Club Casino on Tuesday. The show served as PPPP’s first trip to the Nevada casino since its 2/16/20 appearance with Goose.

Following an opening set from effervescent bassist Karina Rykman and her eponymous trio, Pigeons got down to business with “Time to Ride”. The band offered some recently introduced originals in the first set with “Fall in Place” and “Hell Yeah”, the latter played for only the fourth time since debuting on February 10th in Grand Rapids, MI. Between a sandwich of “Hell Yeah” and “Lightning”, PPPP managed to squeeze in a cover of Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ “Give It Away” before closing the first frame with “Dawn a New Day”.

Returning for set two, the band started things off with a little improv in the form of an off-the-cuff song about bassist Ben Carrey‘s cowboy hat. Diving back into the scripted portion of the program, the second set began in earnest with “Sail On”. After a transition into “Kiwi”, frontman Greg Ormont regaled the audience with the tail of flying “Penguins” ahead of a segue train that rolled through “Funkijam”, an “Also Sprach Zarathustra” that teased Daft Punk‘s “One More Time”, and “Donkey Hotel”. The second set then came to a close with the trifecta of “Skipjack”, “Walk Outside”, and finally “Upfunk”. Taking the Crystal Bay Club stage one last time, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong delivered a fitting “Snake Eyes” to send the casino audience home.
