British glam rockers The Darkness rolled through the Big Apple Monday, stopping at Webster Hall for a performance that featured Nashville grunge rock trio The Dead Deads as support.

The platinum-selling foursome is touring in support of their latest release, Motorheart, which addresses timely themes like robot-human relations. After dazzling crowds in Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania, The Darkness arrived in New York ready to put on a spectacle.

The night opened with an eight-song set from alt-rock up-and-comers The Dead Deads. The female power trio, who performs with X’s drawn over their eyes, dropped their latest release, Tell Your Girls It’s Alright, in 2021 and has been recognized as a band to watch after working with major rock acts like KISS and Slipknot‘s Corey Taylor. At the heart of the band is conflict and contradiction, seen, for instance, in their marriage of poppy hooks and girlish vocals with sludgey grunge riffs and demonic growls.

Their set included songs off Tell You Girls It’s Alright, plus a couple tracks from their previous album, 2018’s Sketches and Animation. They also played a cover of Pink Floyd‘s “In The Flesh”, which they blended with their song “Push Me”.

After The Dead Deads’ opening set, The Darkness took command of the stage and immediately captivated the room with blaring guitars and onstage acrobatics. Opening with the heavy, bagpipe-laden anthem “Welcome Tae Glasgae” off their latest album, the band delivered a mix of new compositions and crowd favorites, including “One Way Ticket”, off of the group’s sophomore studio release, One Way Ticket To Hell And Back, and “Growing On Me” from 2003’s Permission to Land. “I Believe In A Thing Called Love” served as the encore.

Known for their over-the-top humor and bombastic performances, The Darkness was as mad as ever Monday night. Their Motorheart Tour continues with dates through the end of April. View the setlists and photos from the band’s performance at Webster Hall along with photos of The Dead Deads’ set courtesy of Ken Spielman below.
