Baltimore’s Hot August Music Festival was brought to a thrilling end on Saturday with a headlining performance from hometown rock outfit, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong. The popular jam band which grew out of the Baltimore area music scene treated attendees at the one-day music festival at Cockeysville, MD’s Oregon Ridge Park to a finale that included guest sit-ins from guitarist John Kadlecik, and fellow local musician Cris Jacobs.
Pigeons’ headlining performance on Saturday night capped off a day’s worth of music from artists which included Turkuaz, Billy Strings, Melvin Seals & JCB, just to name a few. The jam-friendly quartet opened their set with “Somethin For Ya”, “Time to Ride” and “Poseidon”, before welcoming Jacobs to join in on guitar for their rendition of “Super Funk Regulator Robot Step Squad and Double Dutch Team”. The song was originally penned by Jacobs’ Baltimore area outfit The Bridge which PPPP reportedly used to cover in their early years.

The set continued with another PPPP original in “Overrun”, followed by “Sunny Day”, “Dawn A New Day”, and the relatively new tune in “Water” before the band again welcomed Jacobs to sit in on “Way Down In The Hole” sandwiched between “F.U”. The band continued on with “King Kong” before closing the set with “Ocean Flows”. For the encore, PPPP welcomed Jacobs and John Kadlecik to send fans home with a group cover of The Meters‘ “Hey Pockey Way”.
