Baltimore-based psychedelic funk quartet Pigeons Playing Ping Pong will gather their Flock of fans in Washington, D.C. for a “hometown throwdown” on December 6th and 7th. In the wake of their upcoming fall tour, the band—comprised of Greg Ormont (vocals/rhythm guitar), Jeremy Schon (lead guitar), Alex Petropulos (drums/percussion), and Ben Carrey (bass)—will head just south of their Maryland hometown for this very special two-night run.

First, on Friday, December 6th, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong will land at a familiar D.C. haunt, the 1,200-capacity 9:30 Club. The following night, Saturday, December 7th, they’ll head 3 miles south (as the Pigeon flies) to make their debut at The Anthem, the gorgeous 6,000-cap auditorium on D.C.’s Southwest Waterfront. The performance at The Anthem will mark the biggest headlining show of the band’s career so far—that is, until they go even bigger on New Year’s Eve with an arena show in Asheville.

lespecial will serve as support on 12/6 at the 9:30 club, while Here Come the Mummies will get the festivities started on 12/7 at The Anthem. Tickets to the 12/6 show at the 9:30 Club are only available as part of a two-night weekend pass.

“To say we’re excited to make our debut at The Anthem would be a huge understatement,” Ormont said. “We’ve been working our way up the ladder in D.C. for years, starting in the smallest of venues and loving every step of the process. We’ll be thinking about all of those D.C. memories when we headline our biggest show to date at The Anthem this December.”

The red-hot band is coming off a busy summer on the music festival circuit including headlining sets at Adirondack Independence Music Festival, Sea.Hear.Now, Resonance, LOCKN’, Summer Meltdown, The Peach Music Festival, Northwest String Summit, Levitate Music & Arts Festival, High Sierra,Electric Forest, Backwoods at Mulberry Mountain, Bunbury, and Summer Camp Music Festival, as well as the 10th-anniversary edition of their own homegrown festival, Domefest.

Along with a set of upcoming shows, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong just released a video for their new studio single, “King Kong” last week. The single and video feature Here Come The Mummies’ horn section, so fans attending the December 7th show will be able to see the two bands together live for a funky good time.
