Pigeons Playing Ping Pong continued the Halloween celebrations last night at Austin, TX venue Mohawk Austin. The group once again pulled out all the stops during what turned out to be one super long set, with some rather interesting cover choices mixed in with their own originals. The Baltimore-based funk act busted Prince‘s “1999” early in the set, played in between their own “Whoopie,” and gave the same treatment to “Twist and Shout” serving as the meat in a “Julia” sandwich, going all the way back to 1963 from The BeatlesPlease Please Me album.

P4 continued to pay tribute to the spirits of rock n’ roll past with well-played covers of David Bowie‘s “Let’s Dance,” Nirvana’s “Come As You Are,” the Allman Brothers Band classic “Jessica,” George Michael‘s “Careless Whisper,” and Bob Marley‘s “I Shot The Sheriff,” even throwing in a tease of Tom Petty‘s “Free Fallin'” during their own “Poseidon.”  The band continues their Halloween run tonight at White Oak Music Hall in Houston, TX before a proper All Hallow’s Eve show on Tuesday at Atlanta’s Terminal West.
