Pigeons Playing Ping Pong has premiered a full-show video of its Saturday night performance at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY. The Saturday show marked the group’s second of two sold-out nights back at the iconic New York venue.

Following an opening set by Neighbor, Pigeons took the stage at The Cap and hinted at a special night to come with the Pizazz single, “Somethin’ For Ya”. Always a short tune, “Somethin’ For Ya” set up the first surprise of the night, a 12-minute “Skipjack” > “Eleanor Rigby” (The Beatles) > “Skipjack” segment. Originally debuted at the band’s 2018 Halloween show at The National in Richmond, VA as part of the Red Hot Sgt. Peppers theme, this marked the first time Pigeons had played the Beatles cover since March 5th, 2020 at The Agora in Cleveland, OH.

Throwing it back to the first album, 2010’s Funk E P, Pigeons tipped a cap to the band’s original home base in College Park, MD with “Landing”. Some choreographed interplay between Jeremy Schon (guitar) and Greg Ormont (vocals/guitar) got this one started before a lengthy jam section led to another Pizazz track, “Too Long”—notably without its usual intro from Schon. At this point, Neighbor’s Lyle Brewer (guitar) joined the band on stage for the fan-favorite “Poseidon”, before Pigeons closed out set one with “In The Bubble”.

After a short break, set two began with a special Q&A segment. Here, Ormont answered questions from fans couch-touring on The Relix Channel‘s Twitch page before Ben Carrey (bass) and Alex Petropulos (drums) lifted the band into “Upfunk”. As usual, the Psychology track contained a “Drums” section, allowing Petropulos a chance to strut his stuff on The Capitol Theatre stage. A newer track, “Day In Time” fell into the two-hole before a party favorite, “Drunk People”, kicked the performance into high gear.

Midway through “Drunk People”, Pigeons whipped out one of the band’s favorite mashups, “Eye of the Moonwalk”. Mashing up Survivor‘s “Eye of the Tiger” with the band’s own “Moonwalk” has long been a staple and rarely disappoints. After a return to “Drunk People” came the always-uplifting “Fox and Toad”. The dark and deep instrumental, “Condenser”, followed, which eventually saw a segue to “Su Casa” and its embracing refrain, “This is your home now.” “Horizon”, the Psychology track about celebrating “the people you love”, then closed out the final frame in spectacular fashion.

During the encore, PPPP reminded fans with “Zydeko”, “The purpose of the show is raging with the band.” “Zydeko” would eventually make its way into “Tale As Old As Time”, from The Beauty and the Beast soundtrack (originally debuted at Pigeons’ DisNYE show in 2017), before returning to “Zydeko” and closing out a successful run at The Cap.

Pigeons will head back out on the road next week with the band’s Daft Side of the Moon Halloween shows in Washington, D.C. (10/29); Pittsburgh, PA (10/30); and Columbus, OH (10/31). The band will then return to Asheville, NC at the end of the year for a second-straight New Year’s show at ExploreAsheville.com Arena on December 31st.
