Musical influences from across the globe will descend on Southern California on October 10th–13th for the fall 2024 edition of the Joshua Tree Music Festival. To welcome this internationally renowned lineup—and give the artists something to do on what could be a long car/plane ride—headliners Polyrhythmics have compiled an official festival playlist befitting of the event’s global influences.

Polyrhythmics’ Joshua Tree Music Festival playlist takes listeners on an international adventure with Brazilian singer-songwriter Marcos Valle and Middle Eastern psych-rock collective Al-Qasar. The cross-pollination of styles on a global scale is shown through genre-hopping British R&B/urban gospel/disco/house collective Sault and New Zealand soul-jazz-funk-reggae-dub melting pot Fat Freddy’s Drop. Polyrhythmics also highlight German Krautrock and Afrojazz band Karl Hector & The Malcouns as well as Estonian composer Misha Panfilov. The multi-instrumentalist recently came on many Phish fans’ radars when the band used his latest album Frutaria Electrónica as PA music ahead of the band’s “secret set” at its Mondegreen festival last month.

The Seattle-based Polyrhythmics’ native country is also well-represented, with many domestic artists on the playlist as well. The collection travels through American music history with Arkansas soul guitarist Little Beaver and landmark Southern soul singer O.V. Right, one of the best-selling bands of all time in the U.S. and around the world Earth, Wind & Fire from Chicago, legendary hip-hop producer Pete Rock from The Bronx, Manhattan crooner Bobby Caldwell, Austin Latin-funk band Brownout, and many more.

“We’re excited for our upcoming performance at Joshua Tree Music Festival next month!” Polyrhythmics told Live For Live Music. “This performance will feature a special collaboration with the supremely talented, Adryon De León. In anticipation for our fall tour and in anticipation of this show, we compiled some of the music we have been listening to lately as we get ready to hit the road!”

The lineup for the 2024 Joshua Tree Music Festival sticks a bit closer to home. In addition to Polyrhythmics’ Adryon De León-assisted set, Joshua Tree will host top acts Lowdown Brass Band from Chicago, Mario Lalli & The Rubber Snake Charmers featuring several desert rock architects from Kyuss, Fatso Jetson, Stöner, and more, Oakland livetronica duo House of Hamsa, Long Beach R&B vocalist Adryon de León, recent NPR Tiny Desk sensation The Philharmonik, and many more. An international highlight of the festival is Tanfis, the 18-person music project with members from different Middle Eastern countries.
