Miami-based experimental jazz-fusion quartet Electric Kif reach atmospheric heights on their latest single, “St. Germain”. The instrumental track will appear on the band’s forthcoming studio album, JEFE, due out September 17th. Today, ahead of the album’s arrival, Live For Live Music is excited to premiere “St. Germain”, which delivers a dreamy but melodically engaging listening experience from start to finish.
The song strolls along thanks to a very firm but groovy rhythm set by Armando Lopez. All the while, guitarist Eric Escanes sprinkles subtle guitar lines alongside keyboardist Jason Matthews, who both share unique lead lines taking the song into a realm of cosmic instrumental bliss.
The band’s bassist Rodrigo Zambrano shared a few comments on their new single to go with its premiere in stating,
“St. Germain started as a composition to explore the gospel guitar & bass phrases in a song. I brought the demo with a complete A section to the recording session and I believe that was one of the first songs we started working on. I remember we approached the song from the drums first; Armando purposefully played super light and we nuked the compression to capture the tight tone we wanted. As soon as we started exploring the song as a band, we wrote a b section, transitional chords and experimented with a key change. We kept chipping away at the song until we settled on the outro groove and melody, adding a bit of ear candy throughout. I remember us hearing it from the very first tracking session and getting excited about the sound. St. Germain just always felt good from the first chord so we decided to use it as the single for the new album.”
The statement certainly holds true for “St. Germain”, which fuses a groovy mix of progressive chillwave throughout the listening spectrum.
