This Saturday, the fan-favorite electro-funk trio Exmag kicks off their seven-date Colorado tour, capping off the group’s Interstellar Fantasy tour. Starting things off in Greeley, Colorado, with Edamame, the East Coast-based band composed of Eric Mendelson, Tyler Dondero, and Dave Carls will continue to Aspen on July 22nd for a special performance at the Belly Up with GoldFish. Two weeknight shows—Tuesday, July 24th, at Fort Collins’ Hodi’s Half Note and Wednesday, July 25th, at Denver’s Cervantes’ Other Side—co-billed with jackLNDN come next, with the mini-tour rounded out by a weekend run in the mountains with stops in Avon, Winter Park, and Steamboat Springs.

Ahead of this landmark seven-night sprint across the Centennial State, Exmag is getting fans amped with the premiere of a new Colorado-themed music video for “Not The Last Time”. The song appeared on the group’s nine-track EP, Part I, which was released last fall via Majestic Casual Records. Featuring fiery additions from guitar virtuoso Ben Brandt, “Not The Last Time” perfectly captures Exmag’s signature sound, with a bouncing, feel-good groove; tight instrumentation; and vibrant synths paired with soaring, soulful guitar and propulsive bass.

For the new music video for Exmag’s “Not The Last Time”, director and videographer Dan Ladue plays off Exmag’s characteristic space-funkadelia, crafting a music video that leans into the band’s other-worldly sound. Set over the song’s ambient start, the music video starts with simple text reading “In late 2017, unidentifiable flashing lights were seen in the mountains near Denver, CO. Hikers recovered a USB drive at the scene a week later. It contained the following video and one encrypted message: ‘More than a thang,'” setting up the video’s campy tone and storyline.

As birds chirp, the video cuts to gorgeous footage of the Colorado mountainside right before the energized and catchy opening groove of “Not For The Last Time” kicks in. With Exmag’s three members in a synchronized two-step as they play on top of a mountain, the video is perfect in its simplicity, letting the spacey sound and breathtaking setting speak for itself. As Exmag’s members appear and reappear on screen and the video cuts to footage of the band goofing off, the video showcases the group’s playful nature, wonderfully complimenting the song’s jubilant energy. And, of course, the extraterrestrial theme comes back in full by the end of the video.

As director and videographer Dan Ladue explained to us,

The second I heard the tune I knew the video had to be something fun that showcased the guy’s otherworldly skills as multi-instrumentalists. With a barebones crew of me and our buddy Lev Averbakh and a shooting window of one day, we had to keep it simple. So we hoofed their gear up a mountain outside of Denver, and put on what I imagined a show on their home planet looks like.
