Luke Miller, the guitarist and pianist of Lotus, will look to establish his own footprint in the jamtronica genre on his forthcoming debut solo album under his Luke the Knife moniker, DISCO NAP.
The nine-track solo effort will be released independently on a date that hasn’t yet been confirmed and promises to offer a multi-course listening experience fueled by Miller’s lush combination of musical styles ranging from nu-disco to house with a foundation in funk. All nine tracks on the album were written and produced by Miller himself, who was also joined by a mix of special guests on the various recordings including indie-electro duo CHERUB, Pittsburgh-based electronic group Chalk Dinosaur, bassist Gabe Otto, and Denver-based singer Raven Jane.
Today, Live For Live Music is excited to offer fans the exclusive first listen of the forthcoming album’s lead single, “Better Mind”, which features guest vocals from Raven Jane. Opening up with atmospheric synth lines and a lively rhythm, “Better Mind” welcomes listeners into Miller’s creative world without adding too much flash or over-production. Gabe Otto’s infectious bass lines hold their own right alongside Jane’s seductive vocals, making for a rich–but simplified–listening experience from start to finish.

As Miller explains of the project to Live For Live Music, “There is something special about releasing my debut solo album. Working on, writing, and producing these songs is the culmination of so many of the things I’ve learned over the years with my band Lotus and DJing as Luke the Knife.”
Luke Miller will seek to fund the production, distribution, and marketing costs for the album via a Kickstarter campaign. Incentives for fans and generous backers include early album downloads, Luke the Knife merch, and even a private, virtual DJ set for the top donors from Miller himself. As Miller notes, “I decided to launch this album on Kickstarter because I know people want to support musicians at this time when we can’t tour. I wanted to use this as an opportunity to show the artist behind the work and express my gratitude to everyone who continues to support artists like me.”
